πŸ’»Installation

Server preparation

apt update && apt upgrade -y
apt install curl iptables build-essential git wget jq make gcc nano tmux htop nvme-cli pkg-config libssl-dev libleveldb-dev tar clang bsdmainutils ncdu unzip libleveldb-dev -y

Install GO

ver="1.20.3"
wget "https://golang.org/dl/go$ver.linux-amd64.tar.gz"
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/go
sudo tar -C /usr/local -xzf "go$ver.linux-amd64.tar.gz"
rm "go$ver.linux-amd64.tar.gz"
echo "export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/go/bin:$HOME/go/bin" >> $HOME/.bash_profile
source $HOME/.bash_profile
go version

Node installation

git clone https://github.com/babylonchain/babylon && cd babylon
git checkout v0.7.2
make install

babylond version --long | grep -e version -e commit
# v0.7.2
# commit: fee9407953347b6f78c9dc63c3dd141d936f4f04

We initialize the node to create the necessary configuration files

babylond init UTSA_guide --chain-id bbn-test-2

Download Genesis

wget https://github.com/babylonchain/networks/raw/main/bbn-test-2/genesis.tar.bz2
tar -xjf genesis.tar.bz2 && rm genesis.tar.bz2
mv genesis.json ~/.babylond/config/genesis.json

# ΠŸΡ€ΠΎΠ²Π΅Ρ€ΠΈΠΌ гСнСзис
sha256sum ~/.babylond/config/genesis.json
# 091bd1c0ec67178faae923eb3b21020d6d4b5844de31bf314d7936168b3aa18c

At this stage, we can download the address book

wget -O $HOME/.babylond/config/addrbook.json "https://share101.utsa.tech/babylon/addrbook.json"

Set up node configuration

babylond config chain-id bbn-test-2
babylond config keyring-backend test
sed -i.bak -e "s/^minimum-gas-prices *=.*/minimum-gas-prices = \"0.00001ubbn\"/;" ~/.babylond/config/app.toml
external_address=$(wget -qO- eth0.me)
sed -i.bak -e "s/^external_address *=.*/external_address = \"$external_address:26656\"/" $HOME/.babylond/config/config.toml
seeds="8da45f9ff83b4f8dd45bbcb4f850999637fbfe3b@seed0.testnet.babylonchain.io:26656"
sed -i.bak -e "s/^seeds =.*/seeds = \"$seeds\"/" $HOME/.babylond/config/config.toml
sed -i -e "s/^timeout_commit *=.*/timeout_commit = \"10s\"/" $HOME/.babylond/config/config.toml

(OPTIONAL) Set up pruning

pruning="custom"
pruning_keep_recent="1000"
pruning_interval="10"
sed -i -e "s/^pruning *=.*/pruning = \"$pruning\"/" $HOME/.babylond/config/app.toml
sed -i -e "s/^pruning-keep-recent *=.*/pruning-keep-recent = \"$pruning_keep_recent\"/" $HOME/.babylond/config/app.toml
sed -i -e "s/^pruning-interval *=.*/pruning-interval = \"$pruning_interval\"/" $HOME/.babylond/config/app.toml

(OPTIONAL) Set up indexer

indexer="null"
sed -i -e "s/^indexer *=.*/indexer = \"$indexer\"/" $HOME/.babylond/config/config.toml

(OPTIONAL) Enable/Disable Snapshots

snapshot_interval=1000
sed -i.bak -e "s/^snapshot-interval *=.*/snapshot-interval = \"$snapshot_interval\"/" ~/.babylond/config/app.toml

Create a service file

tee /etc/systemd/system/babylond.service > /dev/null <<EOF
[Unit]
Description=babylond
After=network-online.target

[Service]
User=$USER
ExecStart=$(which babylond) start
Restart=on-failure
RestartSec=3
LimitNOFILE=65535

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF
systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl enable babylond
systemctl restart babylond && journalctl -u babylond -f -o cat

In Babylon, creating a validator is different from other projects. So please refer to the official documentation https://docs.babylonchain.io/docs/testnet/become-validator

If peers do not cling for a long time or you see errors error: wrong Block.Header.AppHash, you need to use State sync or boot from a Snapshot

To view useful commands, go to Useful commands

To create a validator, go to Creating / Editing a Validator
